Fourteen year old Chandler desperately needs our help. This sweet senior dog is currently up for adoption at Animal Haven in NYC and no one has expressed any interest in her because of her old age. We have to change that! She deserves a loving home to live out the rest of her time here on Earth…however long or short that may be. She is an absolutely adorable cocker spaniel mix and weighs about 30 pounds. She’s so gentle and sweet but, understandably so, she’s not doing well in the shelter environment. On top of being way, way too old to be stuck in a shelter, she has a bad case of kennel cough (the dog equivalent of a cold) and a limp that’s clearly causing her pain. She doesn’t have any major ailments…she’s just old and feeling really shitty in the shelter. The second I laid eyes on her today my heart broke. She’s so clearly suffering, as you can see below.
When I opened her cage she barely lifted her head, didn’t even try to make eye contact with me and was continuously shaking. Not because she’s anti-social but because she clearly feels terrible. When she first came in to the shelter and was feeling better she was much more engaging. Shelters are an overwhelming, scary and confusing place for dogs. And most of the time when I walk in the door and see the stress on their faces, I feel better knowing this situation is only temporary for them. But with Chandler’s old age, that will not be the case for her if we cannot find her a home.
That’s why I am asking for your help to find her a forever home that will give her the care, love and comfort that any senior dog deserves. Whether she lives a few weeks, a few months or a few years, she deserves better than this.
