5 Must-Try Dishes at Dirt Candy NYC

Dirt Candy is one of NYC’s most sought after reservations. And guess what…it’s entirely vegetarian. Thanks to my friend Lena, who snagged us the reservation, I got to check it out this week and my whole table was absolutely WOW-ed by our meal! In fact, we liked it so much, we made another reservation for the fall before we even left the restaurant. While Dirt Candy has beautiful decor and looks fancy, it still has an inviting, comfortable atmosphere, and reasonably priced food, which differs from a lot of the other NYC hot spots. All but one item on the menu can be made vegan upon request, which the kitchen can easily do. And while the photos are lousy (because evening food photos always are…first lesson you’ll learn in food blogger photography 101), I still wanted to share them with you all so you guys are aware of these downright delectable dishes. Here are my five must-try dishes at Dirt Candy!

Jalapeño Hush Puppies with Vegan Maple Butter // This was the first dish that came out and we were all pretty much in tears with happiness over how good it was. And want to know how it differs from the non-vegan version? Simple. They just swapped out the regular butter for plant-based butter.

Korean Fried Broccoli // As Dirt Candy describes it on their website, this dish is basically crack in the form of broccoli. I agree. 🙂

Portobello Mushroom Mousse with Sautéed Asian Pears, Cherries and Truffle Toast // Everything in this dish comes together brilliantly.

Brussels Sprout Tacos // These bad boys are one of Dirt Candy’s most popular items. The brussels sprouts come out on a sizzling stone and then you get to make your own taco.

Grilled + Smoked Broccoli Dogs with Broccoli Kraut and Mustard Barbecue Sauce // I loved everything about this dish from the bun to the mustard to the actual broccoli dog. I devoured mine even though I was stuffed.

Oh man, I would give a lot to be eating all of this food again right now. If you’re in NYC, Dirt Candy is absolutely worth checking out!
