Hi guys! It’s finally warmed up here in NYC and I’m so happy about it. It’s time for dresses, tank tops, bathing suits, sunglasses, and of course, vegan summer sandals! If you’ve visited my blog before then you know I’m a firm believer that animals shouldn’t have to suffer for the sake of fashion. That means I’m all about buying clothing and accessories that are free of animal products like leather, wool and suede (just to name a few). If you’re anything like I used to be, when I would buy shoes in the past, I didn’t think twice about the fact that they were made out of a once living, breathing creature. But, it eventually “clicked” with me and I made the decision to buy clothes and accessories that are free of animal products.
And while I’m a firm believer in not buying clothes and accessories that are made of animal products, and I have no trouble finding awesome vegan bags, vegan leather jackets, vegan sweaters, etc., I will also be the first to admit that the vegan shoe game is a challenge. Fashionable vegan shoes are not easy to come by. Not because high quality vegan shoes couldn’t exist, but just because that’s the way it’s always been – shoes have been made out of leather – and therefore, that’s how it continues to be.
But that’s where we come in! How we use our money speaks volumes to brands and stores. When we buy shoes or other products that are vegan, we’re telling the brands and stores, “Hey, we want more of this.” It’s simple supply and demand. And the good news is more and more brands and stores are carrying sustainable/vegan options.
In fact, back in April I was shopping at Nordstrom in Florida and found a pair of summer sandals (above) that I liked. I checked the inside of the shoe to see what materials they were made of (always a good trick when trying to find vegan shoes), and I was so happy to see it said “All Man Made Materials.” SCORE! Vegan and cute. Now they’re my go to sandals this summer, and I get so many compliments on them. Check out all my current favorite vegan summer sandals below.
